randomDisco aka Jonny Nisbet is one of the three resident DJs here at RIOT.
Having been a rock solid DJ for over 20 years it was the only choice for RIOT to have such a skilled artist on board. He cut his mixing teeth playing Dutch hardcore and he’s never looked back since discovering techno at the age of 15 when he first heard the album “Bedrooms and Cities” by Neil Landstrumm. His musical influences come from various sources including Jeff Mills, UR, Tresor, Adam Beyer (early works) and Energun to name a few.
Being a keen video gamer, many game soundtracks have also had an influence on randomDisco’s sound over the years. From the 16-bit sounds of the Sega Mega-Drive and Amiga to more modern masterpieces such as Mass Effect.
Jonny was a resident at Under the Influence (UTI) in Edinburgh as JonnyOh for 7 years and released an exceptional track with fellow UTI resident Semaj as the Influence DJs which formed a part of a collaborative EP on UTI Records alongside tracks by Cymbol, Rob Stow and The Acid Junkies. Having been producing tracks for around 15 years, his first solo release entitled “New Game EP” was released at the end of July 2015 on Tribal Waves featuring remixes from label boss Zuni and Ross Alexander with the “New Game” album due out before the end of 2015.
Having switched from vinyl to digital, randomDisco utilises the creative possibilities this opens up by mixing loops and manipulating the structure of each track to maximise its impact. This artists skills are second to none and guaranteed every time he will totally blow your socks off. Relentlessly brilliant techno from start to finish from an absolute master of his trade.
